Example: how to correctly set the price of a handmade product
The worst thing a beginner creator can do is guess the price “by eye.” Often the product is sold below cost, and the work is not worth it. That’s why it’s important to use the epoxy resin product price calculator, which calculates all costs, labor, and platform fees, and shows you the real hourly earnings.
Let’s take an example with resin earrings. For one pair, we use about 15 g of epoxy resin. A beginner might say: at 500 Kč/kg resin, my cost is only 7.5 Kč, add jewelry components (e.g., hooks and jump rings for 15 Kč) and estimate the price “by eye,” maybe doubling it and rounding. Will the earrings cost 50 Kč? Definitely not!
Why this method doesn’t work
It ignores other costs: mold amortization, decorations, other materials like crafting mats, spatulas, paper towels, etc. Also packaging and the time spent making, promoting on social media or your e-shop, and delivering to the shipping point… This drastically undervalues your work and effectively sells your labor for free.
Using the calculator, with an hourly rate of 300 Kč/h and 10 % overhead, a hobby creator without a business license should set the price for this pair of earrings at about 372 Kč. This price covers materials, jewelry components, overhead, and ensures at least minimal hourly earnings. This way you avoid undervaluing your work and set a price that properly reflects the value of your handmade creations.
